Rev. Dr. Kenneth J. Barnes, FRSA is Mockler-Phillips Chair of Workplace Theology and Business Ethics at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; Inaugural Dean of the Marketplace Institute (Ridley Theological College, Melbourne, AU); Fellow of the European SPES Institute (Leuven, Belgium); Visiting Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Christianity and Culture (Regent’s Park College, Oxford University); Co-founding Director of the Entrepreneurial Leadership Initiative (Oxford University); Tutor in Theology and Religious Studies (Oxford University D.C.E.); Tutor in Business Studies (Saïd Business School, G.O.T.O. Program) and Chaplain to the Oxford University Graduate Christian Union.
Prior to embarking on a career in the academy, Ken spent over twenty-five years as a senior executive with several multinational companies, doing business on six continents. In addition to his corporate work, Ken has also worked with SMEs and start-ups and continues to serve as a company director and mentor to young executives.
He is also an Ordained Minister who has served in the parish as well as various chaplaincy settings (including corporate and university chaplaincies). His main areas of research and teaching are: Business Ethics; The Intersections of Theology and Economics / Faith and Work; Christian Apologetics; Old Testament Hermeneutics; Reformed Theology; Reformation History; and Philosophy of Religion (especially the so-called “problem of evil” and the “ontological argument for the existence of God”). He has published numerous papers in the U.S., U.K. and Australia and recently contributed to the Routledge Handbook on Business Ethics. Ken is currently working on two books entitled: Redeeming Capitalism: creating wealth by virtuous means (Eerdmans) and Light From the Dreaming Spires: reflections on ministry to Generation Y (Wipf and Stock).
Ken and his wife Debby live in Rockport, Massachusetts and have three grown children.
