Luis Robles is the goalkeeper for Major League Soccer’s (MLS) NY Red Bulls. He was drafted by MLS’s D.C. United with the 50th overall selection in the 2007 SuperDraft; however, he passed and signed with Germany’s FC Kaiserslautern where he worked his way to starting goalkeeper. After five seasons in Germany as a starter and backup, Robles was acquired by the Red Bulls. He made his debut on September 29, 2012 and served as starter for the Red Bulls during the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs. Robles cemented his position as the club’s starting goalkeeper during the 2013 season as he started all 34 league matches, helping New York to its first title, the MLS Supporters’ Shield.
Robles was named Red Bulls 2013 Humanitarian of the Year. He finished the year tied for the MLS lead with 17 wins, third in saves (103), fourth in shutouts (11), tied for sixth in goals-against-average (1.21), sixth in save percentage (70.1%), and fourth in the voting for MLS 2013 Goalkeeper of the Year. He was 1 of only 7 MLS players to play all 3,060 minutes of the regular season and set or tied 6 Red Bulls club records.
