the Spark
In 1995, Jim Lane, previously one of the youngest partners in Goldman Sachs history, was well into his career and tired of pretending everything was fine. He and two close friends met in his living room at 6AM. Coffee was poured. Walls came down. That morning, New Canaan Society was born.

New Canaan Society is a network of marketplace men who gather to encourage and disciple one another in abiding friendship with Jesus and authentic friendship with each other.

New Canaan Society is a growing, relational, multi-generational network of marketplace men − standing firm in their faith in Jesus, committed in friendship to one another, leading with love in their families, workplace and communities, flourishing in the work of God’s Kingdom.

From that coffee table, NCS has grown into 50+ chapters nationwide. Every week, men gather for breakfast, prayer, and truth-telling. Along the way, national retreats and energy groups have fueled momentum. And we’re not slowing down.

Why I Started NCSFAQs
No, you don't have to be part of a church. NCS is not a church group or a men's Bible study; it's a network of men supporting each other in faith and friendship.
Membership is free to all, and there are no dues or fees. Contributions are voluntary, and chapters often have a bucket at the door to cover meeting costs.
NCS chapters meet weekly or biweekly, usually sharing a meal and listening to a personal story from a member or guest speaker. The focus is on discussion and connection, not lectures.
While participation is encouraged, you're welcome to listen and join in as you feel comfortable. The goal is to build friendships and support each other.
NCS is a safe space for men to share their lives and grow in friendship. We value humor, authenticity, and respect for one another. Come with an open heart and mind!
