10/20/17 Chapter Friday with Rev. Michael Christie

On October 20 the brudders of NCS New Canaan will gather as a community of men for some fellowship and fun. We welcome Rev. Dr. Michael Christie, who serves as a chaplain for the Connecticut Department of Corrections at Bridgeport Correctional Facility (where a successful pilot of NCS Inside is being conducted).

Reverend Dr. Michael G. Christie serves as Assistant to the Pastor and Minister of Prison Ministry at Union Baptist Church in Stamford, CT. He served as a Deacon for eight years before being ordained in the gospel ministry in 2003. He was educated in the Stamford Public School System before attending the UConn’s Storrs campus where he obtained a Bachelors in Business Administration and Marketing. He quickly became known for his track and field abilities and was nominated Athlete of the Decade in the Big East. He later became an Olympic Trial Finalist.
Rev. Christie graduated from New York Theological Seminary with a Masters in Divinity. He received his Doctorate of Ministry degree at Hartford Seminary, with an emphasis on church growth through new technology and community outreach. After 20 yrs. in the Pharmaceutical Industry as a senior oncology specialist, Rev. Christie was the Director of Economic Empowerment for the Conference of National Black Churches. He is a chaplain for the Department of Corrections and a consultant with Gene-ID, a Next Generation DNA sequencing company.
Rev. Christie is a steering committee member for several community outreach projects. This includes Movement is Life, a national organization that addresses muscular-skeletal health disparities for people of color on the policy and community level. His role is to help churches acquire grants for community health initiatives. Rev. Christie also coordinates The Glaucoma Screening Project in collaboration with the National Glaucoma Society to offer free eye screening and eye care for people of color. He’s the Director of Youth on a Mission, a Stamford-based group that focuses on providing affordable mission experiences and opportunities for Black and Brown youth. Rev. Christie is a sought after track and field consultant and a certified Youth Mental Health First responder.
Rev. Christie preaches nationally and internationally and has launched Project Impact Global, a nonprofit organization that partners with communities in Africa to transform poverty by introducing modern farming technology and training. Project Impact recently launched a fish farm in Kenya.
Rev. Christie enjoys spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, reading, golfing, coaching and spending time with his wife and kids. He is married to the former Arnita Roberts and is the proud father of son Michael Andrew and daughter Nia both of whom are honor students and All-American and nationally ranked in track and field.
