Brock Morgan gives a call to arms to the “mighty men” of NCS to awaken to their identity as men of God, to embrace that they are living in the overlap between heaven and earth, and to join God in lifting the heads of the next generation. Brock sees the hope of the next generation in us and challenges the “mighty men” of NCS to live out their faith so that the next generation can see what God is doing to restore the world to His original design. Brock also shares miraculous examples of the power of prayer and miraculous stories about how the Holy Spirit changed the hearts of the young people he served at Trinity Church in Greenwich.
Purpose (Gerard Placide – 10/9/15 – NCS New Canaan)
Gerard Placide’s story is one of those stories that defines the category “You Can’t Make This Stuff Up”. God gave Gerard the gift of an angelic (tenor) voice, and Gerard’s story is a story of how God has miraculously protected the vessel of this gift (over and over) while using the numerous hardships Gerard has encountered to draw that vessel closer to Him. It is after one of the times God saved Gerard’s life that he understood “purpose”–God had a plan for Gerard’s life and He would not allow even Gerard to derail it.
Without God’s intervention, Gerard says “I should be dead”. Without the hardship that drew him to God, Gerard’s talent is so extraordinary that he might well have become a superstar recording artist chasing riches and fame. Instead, Gerard Placide is a precious man of God–a brother in Christ who just wants to use his gift to spread the word of Jesus. Do not miss Gerard singing “His Eye Is On the Sparrow” in the middle of his talk.
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for Heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain
The Problem of Pleasure (Ravi Zacharias – 10/8/10 – NCS New Canaan)
Pleasure is not a sin. Ravi Zacharias explores pleasure and the line between pleasure and excess. He warns about how the world will try to draw us to excess and shares transparently about what he missed as a Dad from a life on the road. In the end, he concludes that we must seek a balanced life that is a life of worship, because it is worship that brings coherence to our life.
