Bob Durfey

December 10, 2015 by NCS

Bob Durfey spent over 30 years as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, piloting ships, flying helicopter rescue missions, mentoring and equipping leaders to meet urgent national level challenges.  During his career, Commander Durfey logged over 4800 helicopter flight hours, flew more than 400 Search and Rescue missions, commanded the Coast Guard’s largest Group-Air Station combination and served as the Chief of Governmental Affairs and Public Affairs for the Admiral of First Coast Guard District, which oversees the northeast portion of the United States.

As a highly decorated, successful servant-leader, Durfey is known for his ability to integrate his faith into all aspects of work & leadership. Although a graduate of Harvard who had held two major commands, overseeing thousands of people and hundreds of millions of dollars in assets, Bob began to sense what he had experienced and learned through his life was for a much higher purpose than just being a senior military officer. Approaching “retirement” he sought out ways to use his skills and strengths, founding a Leadership Consulting Company. The Lord had other ideas and used a neighbor to get the book HALFTIME into Bob’s hands. Excited and greatly encouraged by the book and the Halftime staff, Bob became passionate about communicating the life principles contained in the Halftime message.  He has been a Halftime Coach for 4 years and now also facilitates Roundtables in New York and New England.

Commander Durfey holds a bachelors degree from the US Coast Guard Academy, a Masters degree from  Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and a Masters degree from The Air Force Senior Service School.  Bob and his wife of 32 years, Carolyn, live near Boston, Massachusetts. Their family continues in the “rescue” business. Carolyn and their daughter Sarah are passionate in the fight against Human Trafficking. Their son, Joe, is an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard stationed in Hawaii.
