Bob Scinto is Chairman of R.D. Scinto, Inc., a commercial real estate development company based in Shelton, CT and one of the largest privately held Connecticut commercial real estate corporations.
Scinto was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT, and is a plumber by trade. His entry into the world of commercial real estate development was the rehab of a three-family house in Bridgeport 40 years ago. R.D. Scinto now has over 4.3 million square feet of space spread out over more than 50 buildings. Bob’s guiding principle is the Golden Rule, which is also a guiding principle of R.D. Scinto, Inc.
Having come from a hardworking Italian-American family of modest means in Bridgeport, he hasn’t forgotten his roots. He supports with time, talent and treasure community educational, cultural, religious and social programs that energize the spirits of people, whether they’ve been here for years or are recently arrived. He understands the need to give back. Among these ventures that attract him you‘ll find the not-for-profit Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, whose board he chairs, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Fairfield Country, Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut, the Boys Club/Girls Club of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.
Scinto has also been a supporter of the arts. Among the pieces of art displayed on the R.D. Scinto Shelton campus are copies of two classic sculptures: a soaring rendition of Michelangelo’s “David,” and a dramatic interpretive rendering of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Vitruvian Man”. Scinto and his wife began a Tuesday evening series called “Nights With Shakespeare” featuring the plays and sonnets of Shakespeare in the R.D. Scinto campus auditorium.
Scinto has been the recipient of many awards and honors for his philanthropic and professional activities, including being the Bridgeport Rescue Mission’s 2015 Corporate Compassion in Action honoree. Scinto has also received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Connecticut Construction Institute, the Patron of the Year Award from the Fairfield Arts Council, the Kennedy Center Vision Award, and the Toby Award of the Southern Connecticut Building Owners and Management Association, among others.
Scinto earned a bachelors of arts degree in business administration in 1971 from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
Bob has been married to his wife Barbara for over 50 years. They have been blessed with four children and 12 grandchildren. All four children, Robert, Amy, Katherine and Dana work with him in R.D. Scinto.
