LCDR Brian D. Weigelt, CHC, USN was raised on a family farm in North Dakota. After graduating from high school in Fessenden, ND, he attended MidAmerica Nazarene University, Olathe, KS, where he earned a bachelor of arts in psychology and business administration. Upon graduation from college, he served on staff at the university as a resident director and the assistant campus chaplain. In December 1996, he and Rosslyn Turner of Adelaide, Australia were married. The Kansas City District Church of the Nazarene ordained Chaplain Weigelt as an Elder in August 1997, and in May 1999, both he and Rosslyn graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary, Kansas City, MO. Chaplain Weigelt earned the master of divinity and Rosslyn the master of arts in theology and history. In August 1999, they began their ministry at the Coquille, OR, Church of the Nazarene as co-pastors.
Having served as a Navy Reserve Chaplain for several years, Chaplain Weigelt volunteered for active duty in the fall of 2003, and was assigned to 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA. While with 1st Marine Division, he served with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines and 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion. He deployed to Ramadi, Iraq with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines in 2004. He was then assigned to the Operational Ministry Center, Norfolk, VA and served aboard USS VELLA GULF (CG 72) from August 2006 to August 2007, deploying to the Fifth Fleet, and with Destroyer Squadron 22 from August 2007 to August 2009. While serving with DESRON 22, he deployed to the Fifth Fleet aboard USS THE SULLIVANS (DDG 68), USS MASON (DDG 87), and USS NITZE (DDG 94) as a part of the THEODORE ROOSEVELT CARRIER STRIKE GROUP. Chaplain Weigelt is presently the 2nd Battalion Chaplain and Senior Protestant Chaplain at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.
Chaplain Weigelt has been awarded three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and various other campaign and services awards. In 2005, he was named the United States Marine Corps Chaplain of the Year by the Chief of Chaplains, and in July 2006, he became a Fleet Marine Force Qualified Officer. Brian and Rosslyn are the proud parents of Eliza, born in January of 2003.
