In April 1983, Graham Power started his company as a conventional civil contractor, with one pick-up, 3 casual workers and administrative help of his wife Lauren. They operated from a stable that had been converted into an office at Elandskloof in Sir Lowry’s Pass. Having just left Savage & Lovemore, a large construction and engineering company and all the infrastructure and support, they suddenly found themselves alone pioneering this new work which today has become the Power Group of Companies. The Group operates nationally from four regional offices: Cape Town, Knysna, Port Elizabeth and Gauteng. Civil engineering arms include Power Construction West Cape ( Cape Town), Power Construction Coastal (Knysna) and Power Construction North (Gauteng). Power Construction Roads, Power Developments and Power Building are based in Cape Town. Power Construction Plant offers a variety of equipment for construction projects, while Power Group Financial and Management Services serves the Group through centralized administration facilities. www.powergrp.co.za
Prayer Movement
After having seen the Transformation video by George Otis in February 2000, and specifically the Cali Columbia story in which the Pastors had started praying together for their City, and the major turnaround it had brought, Graham Power, a successful businessman and relatively new convert, received the first of a two-part Vision from God in July 2000.
The first Vision had 3 clear instructions:
- Go and hire the Newlands Rugby Stadium in Cape Town. Invite the Christians from the various Denominations and gather for a Day of Repentance and Prayer.
- Then Challenge the other Provinces in South Africa to do the same – to gather for a Day of Repentance and Prayer.
- And then this same Challenge must go to the rest of the Christians in Africa.
Today this call from God on a businessman in Africa has led to a worldwide prayer effort which has touched 220 countries – for more on the history of the Global Day of Prayer, go towww.transformationafrica.com.
