Hon. Gregory Slayton

December 15, 2015 by NCS

The Honorable Gregory W. Slayton grew up without a real father. Because of that fact – and a spiritual awakening in college – he has conducted a 30 year study of fatherhood on five different continents. That work – and his experiences raising four great kids with his wife of 22+ years – forms the basis for his new book on fatherhood, Be A Better Dad Today.

Slayton is now a Distinguished Visiting Professor at UIBE in Beijing. He also teaches at Dartmouth, Harvard and Stanford here in the US – and runs his small angel investment firm (Slayton Capital) by which he has invested in companies such as Google, Salesforce.com and Bloom Energy.

Professor Slayton has served as a US Ambassador, a public and private sector CEO, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, a Fulbright Scholar to East Asia, a McKinsey and Company Engagement Manager, and an African Regional Manager for World Vision International. Mr Slayton is an honors graduate of Dartmouth College and the Harvard Business School.

Prof. Slayton’s first book (www.FourCenturiesOfFriendship.com) which he did with his wife, was a surprise best-seller. The Slaytons gave all proceeds to local Bermuda charities.

Prof. Slayton has been on the cover of Time magazine (Oct 1999) and has been featured in literally hundreds of TV, radio and press reports for his work in Silicon Valley, Washington DC and Bermuda – including five HBS case studies. He has won a number of prestigious honors and is the only Republican Ambassador in United States history to receive the Distinguished Foreign Service Award from members of the Congressional Black Caucus. Yet, of all this, Mr Slayton says his primary joy in life is being a husband and a father to four great kids.
