The Rev. Dr. Thomas K. Tewell, Senior Pastor of The Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, is a Trustee of Princeton Theological Seminary where he serves on the Academic Affairs, Financial Affairs and Personnel Committees of the Board. A graduate of Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio from which he also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree, Dr. Tewell has a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and an earned Doctor of Ministry from Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey.
Dr. Tewell has served pastorates in Bethlehem, PA, New Providence, NJ, and the 5100 member Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, TX. He became Senior Pastor at Fifth Avenue in September of 1994 and is privileged to be asked to lead seminars on preaching for Pastors at theological seminaries and to preach at conferences and in congregations around the United States.
Dr. Tewell received the Founders Day Award for the Foundation of Interfaith Research & Ministry for his leadership in starting the AIDS Care Team ministry at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas and the Faith Award for his service as the Chair of the Faith Steering Committee for Habitat for Humanity – New York City’s “Building on Faith Campaign” to build their 100,000th house in the fall of 2000.
Tom and Suzanne Tewell have been married 31 years and are the parents of two grown sons, Ryan and Toby, and the proud grandparents of Nathan Ryan Tewell and Hope Lauren Tewell.
