Rev. Anthony ThompsonPastor at Emanuel AME church whose wife and friends were killed in a shooting massacre intended to incite a race war. “The difference between your history and your story”, "The story I did not get to choose - loss and forgiveness”, “How my community shaped my choices"
Rev. Anthony Thompson’s story changed forever on June 17, 2015 when his life intersected with a mass murder. You know THE story and now we get to hear HIS story. Rev. Thompson’s wife, Myra, was leading the Bible Study at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston when she and 8 others were shot and killed by Dylann Roof as he opened fire in an attempt to ignite a race war. As the story made headlines across the world, Rev Thompson and other suffering families stunned America by immediately offering forgiveness to the assassin. Rev. Thompson lost several close friends in the attack and as the community of Emmanuel Church came together, Rev. Thompson felt he had been given a word of obedience not an option of forgiveness.
Rev. Thompson is currently traveling the country teaching and preaching on the subject of forgiveness. His forgiveness experience is featured in the soon to be nationally released film documentary entitled Emanuel.
