John Wentz is the CEO of Alpha USA and serves on Alpha’s Global Executive Team, helping guide a global movement that partners with churches to create honest, relational spaces where people can explore faith, wrestle with life’s big questions, and grow in meaningful community. Since joining Alpha in 2015, John has worked at the intersection of leadership, culture, and spiritual formation—bringing together global vision with practical, on-the-ground impact.
John’s unique journey—from growing up in the carnival, to working as a travel agent in Mexico, to coming to Christ and sensing a call into full-time ministry—provides a backdrop of compelling stories that resonate with a wide range of audiences. Over the years, he has launched and led ministries in diverse contexts and now works closely with churches across denominations and cultures around the world.
John holds bachelor’s degrees in evangelism and church planting from Lincoln Christian University and a master’s degree in church history and historical theology from Lincoln Christian Seminary. He is the author of The Coaching Guidebook: A Practical Guide to Coaching Ministry Leaders. At the heart of his work is a commitment to honest, whole-person formation—helping men and women integrate heart, soul, mind, strength, and neighbor in life-giving ways.
John often speaks on healthy leadership, whole-life exploration of God, cultural awareness, experiencing the Holy Spirit, practices for spiritual formation, engaging with other cultures, and creating safe spaces where others can know and experience God.
John and his wife, Shannon, have been married for 25 years and will celebrate 26 years of marriage at the end of May. They have three adult children—Luke, Logan, and Mikayla. Outside of work, John enjoys creative writing, exploring U.S. national parks, searching for the best donuts in the country, and playing Settlers of Catan with family and friends.
